El ABC de nuestra comunidad, flyer con fondo rosa.

The TEDIC community and its volunteers are at the heart of our actions, driving a committed network of people and organizations working together for a fairer and more equitable future.
Together, we stand up for human dignity and fundamental rights, including digital rights. In this blog, we invite you to relive the experiences, achievements and key moments we have collectively built with our community and volunteers throughout 2024.

January with J for Joy

2024 kicked off with joy, as girls and young women empowered themselves through music at
Mitakuña Rock Camp, an initiative created by and for them, as well as for women interested in exploring their musical passion. During the camp, participants learned to play instruments, formed bands, attended creative workshops and, thanks to TEDIC, discovered key resources to protect their digital safety from potential online threats.

February with F for Frontier

At the third edition of the Crypto Summit del Sur, held on February 20 in Ciudad del Este, Alto Paraná, TEDIC brought its commitment to digital and environmental rights to the crypto community in Paraguay and the region. This event —the region’s leading conference on mining, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain technology— brought together experts from across Latin America to exchange ideas and knowledge in the Triple Frontier, where the borders of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil meet.

During the meeting, we participated with our #MisDatosMisDerechos (#MyDataMyRights) campaign, presenting the resources developed around data protection and the environmental impact of the crypto ecosystem. At our stand, attendees were able to access informative postcards summarizing our research on cryptocurrencies and crypto mining, strengthening the dialogue on technology and rights in a space of innovation and collective learning.

March with M for movement

TEDIC remains steadfast in its commitment to building a Paraguay where all women can fully enjoy their rights and where gender equality becomes a tangible reality. That’s why, for #8M, International Women’s Day,
we shared several moments with our community, which we will tell you about below:

Kuñanguéra Aty Guasu (Great Gathering of Women)

The Articulación Feminista del Paraguay, of which TEDIC is a member, organized a space for collaboration to share strategies of resistance and strengthen collective struggles. The meeting addressed social, political, and economic issues at both national and international levels, analyzing their direct impact on women’s territory-body.
This served as a basis for building the manifesto of the organization, which was later read at the #8M march in Asunción.

Feminist Minga: Talking and drawing our resistances

The collaboration between TEDIC, the Centro Cultural Juan de Salazar and the Colectiva Robusta made it possible to organize a feminist minga (a collaborative community effort) that brought together more than fifty activists from social organizations with a gender perspective. The meeting had two main parts: first, a fanzine workshop where participants expressed their ideas. Then, a space for dialogue at the Tereré Jeré, where they shared the meaning of their creations, reflecting dreams, demands and strategies of resistance. The meeting also became a key space for organizing the march, with participants creating posters with messages advocating for safe sexting and access to technology as a tool for women’s empowerment.

#8M Fair and March

Leading up to the #8M International Women’s Day march, TEDIC participated in a fair at Plaza Uruguaya, hosting a booth to showcase cyborgfeminist merchandise and share resources on cybersecurity for collective action, along with strategies to counter hate speech. After the fair, TEDIC joined the march alongside women from various sectors of society, including farmers, indigenous people, urbanites, artists, and domestic workers, reflecting the diversity of women living in Paraguay.

April with A for activism

TEDIC’s volunteer program started its first meetings with people interested in defending human rights in the digital space and training on the issues the organization addresses. During these meetings, participants reflected on digital rights, gender inequalities, and the challenges of activism in Paraguay. They also shared expectations and past experiences, defined roles within the team, and mapped out a roadmap for the volunteers’ actions. As part of this process, a document was collaboratively drafted to outline the group’s principles and values, aligned with TEDIC’s mission and vision. Values such as respect, responsibility and honesty were established as the basis for the dynamics and collective work of the volunteers.

May with M for more transparency

As every year, TEDIC participated in the Open Government Week, a global initiative of the Open Government Partnership that promotes transparency and collaboration between public administrations and citizens. This year, thanks to a partnership with the Universidad Americana and civil society organizations, the discussion “Paraguay and Open Government: Achievements and Challenges” was held. Additionally, TEDIC took part in a fair and shared with the academic community resources on digital security and research related to open data and personal data protection.

This space allowed for bringing digital security tools closer to the community, offering support, and providing practical resources to strengthen online protection. Additionally, attendees were given free materials specifically designed for the community’s needs.

Reborn in unity

Also during the month of June, the Paraguayan Network of LGTBIQ+ Artists (REPAR+), highlighted the importance of decentralizing opportunities for artists of the community and called to participate in a march and festival in commemoration of the international month of LGTBIQ+ pride. At the event, TEDIC took to the stage to share digital security resources to address cyber threats and encouraged the community to explore and use the free tools available on the Libres y Segures en Internet website.

Callecultura

Every year, the civic initiative Callecultura reclaims Juan de Salazar Street as a recreational space for both neighbors and visitors, offering cultural and recreational activities. Since its inception in 2014, it has aimed to reclaim public spaces as a common ground for fostering social interaction and contributing to building a more welcoming and inclusive city. Over 10 years, it has brought together diverse communities to enjoy music, exhibitions, fairs, games, and gastronomy.
