The Organization of American States is the oldest regional body in the world, whose origin dates back to the First International American Conference, held in Washington, D.C., from October 1889 to April 1890. At this meeting, it was agreed to create the Union International of American Republics and a network of provisions and institutions began to be woven that would come to be known as the “inter-American system”, the oldest international institutional system.
